1 Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using ScanFreePDF ("the Service"), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our Service.

These terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Service.

2 Description of Service

ScanFreePDF provides free, browser-based PDF processing tools including but not limited to:

Merging and splitting PDF files
Compressing PDF file sizes
Converting PDFs to and from other formats (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG)
Adding watermarks, page numbers, and signatures
Protecting and unlocking PDFs with passwords
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) for scanned PDFs
Rotating, cropping, and repairing PDFs

The Service is provided "as is" and may be updated, modified, or discontinued at any time without prior notice.

3 Acceptable Use

You agree to use ScanFreePDF only for lawful purposes.

✓ Permitted Uses

Processing your own documents or documents you have permission to modify
Personal, educational, and commercial document processing
Converting documents for accessibility or compatibility purposes
Compressing or merging documents for legitimate business use

✗ Prohibited Uses

Uploading files containing illegal, harmful, or malicious content
Processing documents that violate copyright, intellectual property rights, or privacy laws
Using the Service to process confidential government or classified documents
Attempting to reverse-engineer, hack, or disrupt the Service
Automated bulk processing or scraping without prior written permission
Using the Service for any illegal activity under applicable laws

4 File Uploads & Ownership

You retain full ownership of all files you upload to ScanFreePDF.

By uploading a file, you confirm that you have the right to process and modify that file.
You grant ScanFreePDF a temporary, limited license to process your files solely to perform the requested operation.
This license expires immediately when your files are deleted (within 2 hours of upload).
We do not claim ownership of your content and will never use your files for any purpose other than the requested tool operation.

5 File Size & Usage Limits

To ensure fair access for all users, the following limits apply:

Maximum file size: 500 MB per file
Session storage: Files are retained for a maximum of 2 hours
We reserve the right to impose additional rate limits or restrictions to prevent abuse

Users who abuse the Service through excessive or automated usage may be temporarily or permanently blocked.

6 Disclaimer of Warranties

ScanFreePDF is provided "as is" without any warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to:

Warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
Guarantees that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or produce perfect results
Guarantees of output quality for all PDF types and formats

While we strive for accuracy and reliability, PDF processing involves complex file formats and external tools. Always keep backups of important documents before processing them.

7 Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ScanFreePDF and its operators shall not be liable for any:

Loss of data, files, or documents arising from use of the Service
Indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
Damages resulting from unauthorized access to your uploaded files
Loss of profits, business interruption, or loss of business information

Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the past 12 months (which, for a free service, is zero).

8 Intellectual Property

The ScanFreePDF website, its design, logo, and underlying software are the intellectual property of ScanFreePDF and its licensors. You may not:

Copy, modify, or distribute any part of our website without written permission
Use our brand name, logo, or trademarks without prior written consent
Reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the source code of our Service

The open-source libraries we use (such as FPDI, Ghostscript, and others) are governed by their respective licenses.

9 Privacy

Your use of ScanFreePDF is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand our practices regarding your data and uploaded files.

10 Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms of Service at any time. Changes will be effective upon posting to this page. The "Last Updated" date at the bottom will reflect when the most recent changes were made.

Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.

11 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the use of our Service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation first, and if necessary, through appropriate legal channels.
